Following her absolutely captivating performance of ‘America The Beautiful’ prior to Super Bowl LX, Brandi Carlile was in New York City for two nights at Madison Square Garden. While there, she broke out her mesmerizing cover of ‘Uninvited‘ by Alanis Morissette.
Brandi first debuted the cover of ‘Uninvited’ by Alanis Morissette last Summer during a concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado. At the time, I shared clips of the cover here on BroBible from Brandi’s soundcheck and performance and it ended up being one of the most-shared articles on all of Facebook in the month of September. It’s that good.
Brandi Carlile Covering ‘Uninvited’ By Alanis Morissette At Madison Square Garden
Brandi played two nights at MSG (2/13 and 2/24). Filling up the greatest arena on earth, a place I’ve seen Phish perform nearly 20 times, with adoring fans excited for The Human Tour.
Her setlist was similar in length both nights except that she played 25 songs on Saturday and only 23 on Friday. Both nights she opened up the concerts with a cover of Madonna’s ‘Like A Prayer’ before diving into her own music. Each night, Brandi Carlile took audience requests for songs like ‘The Eye,’ ‘Dying Day,’ and ‘American The Beautiful.’
On Friday, she played a 3 song encore and on Saturday the encore was 4. Both nights she sang ‘Uninvited’ by Alanis Morissette and blew the roof off. And to be fair, the song does a LOT of the work here as it is one of the most beautiful songs ever written by Alanis but Brandi Carlile brings new life into this hauntingly beautiful cover:
There are, of course, many clips and angles of the performance. I first came across the cover on TikTok from this person who seemed to be practically standing on the stage they were so close.

For the uninitiated, ‘Uninvited’ is a 1998 song by Alanis Morissette. It first appeared in the film City of Angels and later on the soundtrack.
‘Uninvited’ was Alanis Morissette’s first recording since Jagged Little Pill and it’s an absolute banger under the right circumstances (right circumstances = Halloween season because it’s a haunting song). ‘Uninvited’ went on to win two Grammy Awards for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance and Best Rock Song.
A perfect cover requires several elements. First and foremost, the original song has to be great. Secondly, the artist covering the track must be able to breathe new life into it somehow. Thirdly, they have to also stay true to the original song while elevating it somehow. Brandi Carlile did all of that and then some with her cover of ‘Uninvited.’
