A couple of weeks ago, I tweeted from the BroBible Twitter account that Breaking Bad was a better show than The Sopranos, and BOY, the internet was not happy with me.
However, I’m the type of guy who will stick to his guns, so not only did the tweet remain posted, but I actively defended myself.
Because the fact is, while The Sopranos may be the pioneer of prestige television, Breaking Bad is the mountaintop, as it took everything that The Sopranos did well and just did it better (please don’t hurt me — everyone is entitled to their opinion).
So, naturally, given my intense appreciation for all things Breaking Bad — including Better Call Saul, which is also patently excellent — you can imagine how hyped I was when it was announced that a Breaking Bad sequel film would be coming to Netflix. And according to Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul breakout star Bob Odenkirk, the movie has already secretly been shot and is finished. Ummm… WHAT?!
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Odenkirk expressed his amazement that the Breaking Bad team was able to shoot an entire movie without almost anyone finding out about it:
“I’ve heard so many different things about it, but I am excited about the Breaking Bad movie. I can’t wait to see it…I don’t know what people know and don’t know. I find it hard to believe you don’t know it was shot. They did it. You know what I mean? How is that a secret? But it is. They’ve done an amazing job of keeping it a secret.” [The Hollywood Reporter]
While not much is known about the film at this time, we do know that it will follow Aaron Paul’s iconic Jesse Pinkman in the aftermath of the series finale. Additionally, the film is expected to be released on both AMC and on Netflix.
And although no release date has been announced at this time, given that production on the flick has already wrapped, you can expect it to premiere sometime in early 2020.
