‘The Marvels’ Marketing Team Seems To Have Finally Figured It Out

The Marvels, the 33rd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that’s hitting theaters on November 10, is currently tracking to make between $75 million and $80 million at the domestic box office during its opening weekend.

For comparison, Brie Larson’s debut as the character in 2019’s Captain Marvel opened to $153 at the domestic box office — twice as much as its sequel is currently tracking to earn.

Marvel has obviously had some difficulty promoting the film, as evidenced by their recent TV spot which begins with a clip from Avengers: Endgame and ends with a tease of Thor showing up.

There’s also the fact that the actors’ strike, which began back in July, remains ongoing, which means none of the cast’s diverse talent — Larson, Iman Vellani, Teyonah Parris, Samuel L. Jackson, Zawe Ashton, Park Seo-joon, Lashana Lynch, Randall Park, Shamier Anderson, and more — have been able to promote the film.

Marvel has found one way to effectively spread the word about The Marvels, though, and that’s been by putting its star Brie Larson in various new outfits, such as a form-fitting white tank top that went viral when the first trailer debuted, and this latest Captain Marvel-themed dress that’s been featured in the recent marketing material.

“Whoever made Brie Larson clothes on The Marvels set put up 96 Jordan numbers,” said one tweet.

“This is the only picture Marvel Studios needs to promote the movie,” another person said.

“One ticket for The Marvels!” a third quote tweet of the picture read.

As mentioned above, despite the ongoing actors’ strike, Marvel Studios is moving forward with releasing The Marvels, the studio’s final film of 2023, on Friday, November 10.

Larson is also currently starring in the AppleTV+ series Lessons in Chemistry, which debuted its first three episodes on the streamer on Friday, October 13.
