Bryan Cranston Didn’t Eat Enough Mushrooms At The Sphere To Enjoy His First-Ever Trip With Catherine O’Hara

Bryan Cranston and Catherine O’Hara tried mushrooms for the very first time, together, to see Dead & Company at the Sphere in Las Vegas. The former says their experience was severely underwhelming.

I don’t think they ate enough of the magic chocolate bar!

Cranston detailed his unexpected journey at the Sphere (or lack thereof) during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! It was a failed attempt at method acting, inspired by Seth Rogen.

Why did Bryan Cranston do mushrooms with Catherine O’Hara?

Cranston most recently appeared in the Apple TV series ‘The Studio‘ as an old-Hollywood style executive. The critically-acclaimed show was developed and directed by Rogen.

Cranston’s character, Griffin Mill, eats some mushrooms in one of the early episodes. However, Mill accidentally takes way too large of a dose and goes for a psychedelic ride.

Cranston had to act like he was tripping balls but he did not have that much real-life experience with drugs. Certainly not of this kind.

Fortunately, Rogen is a seasoned veteran!

When Cranston asked Rogen for advice on how to portray a mushroom trip, Rogen suggested that he try microdosing. Only a little bit. Just to get a feel. Nothing like Mill.

Bryan Cranston was not down at first. And then he thought a little bit harder about his situation…

They were in Las Vegas, shooting a series with well-known drug guy Seth Rogen. He and all of his coworkers also decided to see Dead & Co. at the Sphere.

“If God wasn’t telling me to do microdosing,” Cranston recalled, “what was he telling me?!”

Fair point. If there was a place to try mushrooms for the first time, that was it.

The trip was a letdown.

Cranston was not the only person to try mushrooms for the first time on that day. Catherine O’Hara decided to microdose with him! They were also joined by a more seasoned group of veterans. Ike Barinholtz served as the trip-sitter.

While others dove into a larger dose, O’Hara and Cranston kept it light. Maybe Definitely too light.

“It felt like maybe I took three sips of wine,” Bryan Cranston said. “It was nothing. Nothing!!”

The mushrooms never hit as hard as they expected and/or wanted. They hardly felt anything.

“Now I’m angry,” he proclaimed.

Thus, Cranston did have to act out Mill’s accidental overdose entirely by instinct. His first-ever trip was a major letdown but I would love to hear Catherine O’Hara’s side of the story!
