The budget of Captain America: Brave New World has ballooned to the neighborhood of $350 to $375 million, according to reports.

The film, which is set to be the fourth in the Captain America franchise, will be the first with Anthony Mackie starring as the titular Marvel hero. The first three Captain America movies featured Chris Evans as the character.

The production of Captain America: Brave New World — which was originally scheduled to be released in May of this year — has been nothing short of a disaster thus far.

Even before cameras started rolling, the film was renamed from Captain America: New World Order to Brave New World. And once they began rolling in March 2023, they virtually haven’t stopped since, as the film has reportedly undergone multiple rewrites and reshoots.

The extent of the rewrites is so extreme that it appears Giancarlo Esposito’s character was introduced and made the villain of the film on the fly.

Now, according to World of Reel, the budget is north of $350 million. And that’s not even counting marketing. Funnily enough, some Captain America merch did roll out a few weeks ago: at McDonald’s as Happy Meal toys, which were clearly tied to the film’s 2024 release date.

In addition to Mackie in the lead role of Sam Wilson/Captain America and Esposito as an unnamed villain, Captain America: Brave New World stars Danny Ramirez, Carl Lumbly, Tim Blake Nelson, Shira Haas, Harrison Ford, and Liv Tyler. Mark Ruffalo has also said he’ll be appearing in the film.

Captain America: Brave New World is currently one of four Marvel Cinematic Universe films set to release in 2025, alongside Thunderbolts, The Fantastic Four, and Blade. Blade, however, certainly won’t be hitting theaters next year now that the film, which was announced in 2019, is, once again, without a director.
