Ranch dressing is a certified American obsession. People dip everything from pizza to carrots in it without a second thought.
But one woman’s first trip to Buffalo Wild Wings left her wondering if she’d stumbled into some kind of ranch-based prank.
The Ranch Situation, Explained
In a viral video with more than 535,000 views, TikToker @omg.cort documents her inaugural Buffalo Wild Wings experience with mounting confusion.
The video shows two trays on the table. The first contains the actual order—15 wings, half-eaten, with four ranch cups, which seems perfectly reasonable. Then she pans the camera to a second tray.
It’s just ranch. Seven additional cups of ranch dressing, so many that one had to get stacked on top.
“Hey chat, first time at Buffalo Wild Wings we ordered 15 wings but Do they always bring out this much ranch or Is our waitress f—— with us?” the text overlay reads.
The ratio is absurd: 11 cups of ranch for 15 wings. That’s nearly one cup of ranch for every 1.4 wings.
Commenters Weigh In
According to the caption, viewers had wildly different theories about what was happening.
Many commenters thought the waitress was just being exceptionally nice or was having a particularly good shift. Others suggested the server was absolutely messing with them.
Several commenters said they wished their servers gave them this much ranch.
“Bdubs girl here, it’s 1 per every 5 wings. this is so funny and your server definitely liked you,” a top comment read.
“Imma need that waitress to work at Wingstop and hook it up,” a person said.
“My steak is too tender and my lobster too buttery,” another joked.
“As someone who used to work at one, this is so funny and it just means they were having a good shift and making u laugh. better too much ranch than not enough!” a commenter pointed out.
Why Americans Are Obsessed With Ranch
Ranch isn’t just a salad dressing—it’s one of our country’s most popular condiments.
According to Mental Floss, ranch dressing was invented in Alaska in the 1950s by Steve Henson, a Nebraskan plumbing contractor who created it to dress up bland camp food.
He later moved to California and opened Hidden Valley Ranch, where the dressing became so popular that guests bought jars to take home. The Clorox Company purchased Hidden Valley Ranch in 1972 for $8 million, and by 1992, ranch had officially become America’s best-selling salad dressing, overtaking Italian.
WROR reports that ranch dressing pulled in $1.3 billion in sales last year, surpassing ketchup as America’s most popular condiment in restaurants.
Ranch really took off after Cool Ranch Doritos launched in 1986, raising the condiment’s profile nationally. Then in 1994, Domino’s started promoting ranch as the perfect dip for pizza crusts and wings, cementing its place in American food culture. Soon restaurant menus everywhere featured items like “Fries and Ranch” and “Knots & Ranch.”
