Moosehead Breweries
It’s been around a week since the United States kicked off a trade war by imposing tariffs on billions of dollars worth of goods coming from Canada. The country didn’t waste any time responding, and the same can be said for a brewery that’s now offering a 1,461-pack of beer while throwing some shade at Donald Trump in the process.
Canada, Mexico, and China were all targeted by the sweeping tariffs that were initially supposed to be instituted at the start of February before they officially went into effect last week; a 25% levy applied to goods imported from the first two countries on that list, while the third was limited to 10%.
It only took a few days for the Trump administration to walk things back a bit after the economic realities of the tariffs were immediately reflected in the stock market, but that only did so much to stop the downward trend as the standoff continues to unfold.
Canada subsequently instituted retaliatory tariffs on American imports, and a number of provinces have ordered stores to remove beer, wine, and liquor hailing from the United States from their shelves in the hopes of sending a message while encouraging consumers to buy booze produced by domestic companies.
That includes Moosehead Breweries, the New Brunswick-based operation that has the distinction of being the oldest brewery Canada has to offer thanks to a history stretching back to 1867.
According to Business Insider, the beermaker has responded to the tariffs by whipping up the “Presidential Pack” that features exactly 1,461 cans of its flagship Canadian lager—which just so happens to be the number of days that comprise the four years of the second Trump administration.
Moosehead is selling the 1,461-pack of beer in its home province in addition to Nova Scotia and Ontario. Anyone looking to get their hands on one will have to fork over $3,490 in Canadian dollars ($2,428 in American) for the privilege—and it appeared some people did exactly that when you consider its website says it’s sold out.
