A Missouri man learned his 12-year-old dog must be put down and decided to treat her to a juicy steak from Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen. He shared the touching gesture from the restaurant’s staff in a now-viral video.
TikToker and musician Cousin Homer (@cousinhomer) shares the heartbreaking news that his 12-year-old dog and “best friend” has to be put to sleep. He shares a short video of her playing with a stick, which garnered over 690,000 views.
He first shared his appreciation for the gesture in a now-deleted video in Aug. 2025. His latest viral video was posted on Jan. 3.
Homer stands outside of Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen and says, “I’m standing here in front of Cheddar’s. I’m going to tell the whole world what you did.”
His initial statement makes viewers wonder if the restaurant disappointed him during an already stressful moment.
However, he soon reveals that restaurant staff banded together to support him during the loss of his dog.
What Did Cheddar’s Do For The TikToker?
Homer’s dog, Bella, actually passed away in 2023. But Homer recently processed the loss to the point where he felt comfortable sharing the story, he told TODAY.
“I called Cheddar’s, and I asked them for the biggest steak they had,” he explains. The worker tells him to pick two sides, and he shares that he doesn’t need them because the steak is for his dog, who will soon be put down.
He couldn’t believe what was waiting for him at the restaurant when he arrived to pick up the food.
“The manager handed me the bag of food, and he said, ‘We’re so sorry about your dog. Her last meal is on us,'” he recounts. “I could not believe it. That was so nice of them.”
When he opens the bag of food, he sees a card at the top. All of the restaurant’s staff signed a card conveying their condolences for Homer.
How Did Cheddar’s React To The Viral Video?
In a follow-up video to his August post that reached over 3 million views, Homer shares that Cheddar’s saw his video and sent him additional goodies.
He opens a large package sent to his P.O. box and unwraps a large blanket with the Cheddar’s logo. The restaurant also included another letter signed by corporate workers.
Cheddar’s official account commented, “May comfort wrap around you like a warm Honey Butter Croissant. Your Cheddar’s family is here for you, Cousin.”
Viewers Respond To The Heartwarming Gesture
In the comments, viewers praised the restaurant for its kind gesture during a heartbreaking moment for a customer.
“Aww man, I literally just went through that with my best boy. This had me tearing up. Bless cheddars for doing this. So incredible,” one commented.
“I love Cheddars for their food, now I have to love them for that kind gesture,” a second wrote.
Some said the viral TikTok encourages them to try out Cheddar’s.
