Coinbase may have gotten the publicity they wanted with their Super Bowl ad.
During the first quarter of the Super Bowl, the cryptocurrency exchange platform ran a commercial that showed a QR code bouncing around the screen and changing colors. The code sent people to Coinbase’s sign-up screen.
Brilliant or wasteful? Coinbase spent somewhere around $7M for a #SuperBowl ad with just a QR code. pic.twitter.com/eAb9TViGVu

It appears that the ad was a hit because Coinbase’s app immediately crashed because so many people tried to scan the QR code.

Coinbase just spent $14 million for a color-changing QR code to bounce around on the screen for 30-seconds during the Super Bowl…
And the website crashed.

The Coinbase website crashed, but the offer is for anyone new to Coinbase to get $15 in free bitcoin if they sign up in the next 44 hours.
