Colin Farrell is in talks to star in the Luca Guadagnino-directed film Sgt. Rock at DC Studios, according to reports. Farrell, of course, already plays The Penguin in The Batman and the hit HBO show The Penguin.

According to reports, the Academy Award-nominated Irish actor is in talks to take over the lead role in Sgt. Rock, which was previously being circled by prior Luca Guadagnino collaborator Daniel Craig, who starred in his latest film Queer.

Guadagnino is also known for directing films such as Call Me By Your Name and Challengers. Sgt. Rock was created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert and was first introduced by DC Comics in June 1959.

Farrell’s Penguin character exists inn the cinematic universe created by Matt Reeves in The Batman, which is separate from the upcoming DCU that will be launched in July with the release of Superman and will include confirmed films such as Supergirl and Sgt. Rock, and TV series such as Lanterns.

“The character gained steamed in 1977 when he received his own comic book series; it ran until July 1988. Rock’s talent includes shooting down German fighter planes with a single submachine gun and tossing grenades with great accuracy. When he’s without a gun, he’s a great street fighter, and can survive gunshots. He’s a calm guy with heart, but also has a ‘combat antenna’ able to detect an incoming enemy siege.”  [via Deadline]

Earlier this year, DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran said that Sgt. Rock would begin production this summer if they found the right actor.

After the release of the highly-anticipated Gunn-directed Superman on July 11 (trailer below), the second official film in the DCU will be Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which is directed by Craig Gillespie and stars Milly Alcock in the titular role. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is currently scheduled to hit theaters on June 26, 2026.
