HBO’s new series The Penguin has been a massive hit since premiering in September, as the series is racking up both massive viewership and critical acclaim from both audiences and critics alike.
The breakout star of the series has been actress Cristin Milioti, who plays Sofia Falcone, the primary antagonist of the series.
While Milioti has been a successful Hollywood actress for over a decade now, her role as Sofia Falcone has elevated her fame to new heights given how widely beloved the performance is.
It certainly isn’t lost on Milioti how lucky she is to have landed the Sofia Falcone part, as she recently revealed during an interview with W Magazine— in which she also did ASMR — that she’s wanted to play a Batman villain for the last 30 years.
“HBO’s The Penguin was also a real pinch-me moment: I’ve been a Batman obsessive since I was 7. I’ve wanted to play a Batman villain my whole life. Sofia Falcone is a character I really loved playing. Loved is an understatement, I’m obsessed with her.”
Milioti — previously known for her work in projects such as Palm Springs, The Wolf of Wall Street, Fargo, Made For Love, and The Resort — also detailed the fashion inspiration behind the fan-favorite character.
“She wears some pretty fabulous things. We wanted to make sure that her hair and makeup looked like someone going into battle, which was very fun to figure out. I also got to run around in giant fur coats with guns, and that was very cool. Sofia Falcone probably has the strongest sense of style of the women that I’ve played. She uses clothes as armor.”

Alongside Milioti, The Penguin — which takes place immediately after the events of 2022’s hit film The Batman — stars Oscar-nominee Colin Farrell in the lead role alongside Rhenzy Feliz, Deirdre O’Connell, Clancy Brown, Carmen Ejogo, Michael Zegen, Theo Rossi, Michael Kelly, Mark Strong, and more.
