A cryptocurrency group who tried to hang a tarp over an ‘O’ in the world famous ‘Hollywood‘ sign in Los Angeles wound up filming their own arrest.
The group of six individuals in a cryptocurrency crew were arrested by officers from the Los Angeles Police Department who later said they “trespassed all the way up to the Hollywood Sign in an attempt to hang a banner on the ‘O.'” According to a spokesperson from the LAPD, all six members in the crypto crew were arrested without incident.
Cyrpto Crew Films Their Own Arrest At Hollywood Sign
The world famous Hollywood sign draws millions like moths to a flame. It is arguably the most visible and iconic landmark in Los Angeles and ranks up there among all American iconography from coast to coast. Naturally, there are dingbats who try and deface it for their own personal gain.
The stunt, according to KTLA News was intended to promote their crypto platform PumpFun which is described as a crypto network where individuals can ‘invest’ in creators and internet personalities to monetize their success in new ways.
Did they intend to film themselves getting arrested? That does not seem to be the case, but it certainly has raised the profile of their cause more than hanging a banner on the Hollywood sign ever would have.
In the video that has since been scrubbed from X (formerly known as Twitter), Jake Hillhouse can be seen saying “Step one, get supplies. Step two, and probably the hardest step, build the tarp. … Step five — well, this isn’t really a step — we all got arrested.”
The video was viewed nearly a million times on X before it was taken down yesterday.
Interestingly, at this point it is unclear what they will be charged with. Trespassing is certainly on the table but it remains to be seen if those charges will be filed and what else, if anything, will accompany those charges.
