‘Now That’s An Uno Reverse’: Dallas Man’s Date Orders Prime Rib, Truffle-King Crab Butter At Truluck’s. Then She Calls Him Because She Left Her To-Go Box In His Car. He DNDs

There’s so much information to be exchanged on a first date. And so much of it goes beyond the ‘fit or even the personal stories laughingly shared. A shared meal is more than a question of food and preparation.

It’s manners, social awareness, and in some cases, knife skills.

Sometimes it’s magical. Other times the best part is the leftovers. Or at least that’s the case for Aramis (@unoaramis), a Dallas-based hopeful who discovered that not every night ends on a high note. Sometimes you’ve just got a fancy breakfast for tomorrow.

How Can You Tell If Date Is Just Trying To Get A Free Meal?

On a recent date, Aramis says he pulled out the stops for a night of fine food dining, but in the end, he chose his peace.

“Tell me if I’m wrong,” he says in the TikTok video where he’s recounting the recent date. Under a caption that simply says. “Truluck’s dating story,” he tells it to the internet.

“I took this girl to Truluck’s, and she orders the prime ribeye (medium), with the king crab truffle butter. It looked amazing,” he says.

But at $69.00 for the steak and another $14.00 for the truffle butter “amazing” should be the point of departure for this meal.

Because what most of the country outside of Texas, Florida, and Washington, might not know is that Truluck’s is a high-end eatery with a focus on fresh, sustainable seafood and steaks.

In short: Truluck’s is the type of restaurant that prides itself on sustainable fishing practices, flies its stone crabs in from Florida, and where the ladies wear sequins and gents don a tux (in Dallas anyway).

Take It To-Go

Aramis doesn’t spend much time detailing what they talked about or even what he ordered. He says that when his date didn’t finish her food, she grabbed a to-go box to pack it all up.

He says he dropped her off, and she gave him the “weakest side-hug ever,” indicating she was no longer romantically interested in him (if she ever was).

“I was like, ‘All right, I can tell, I’m probably never going to see you again,'” he says with a little laugh.

But it’s “Cool. Cool,” he says.

Then, he was three minutes down the road when he saw her calling, he recounts.

It Backfires

He says he looked in the backseat of his car, “And I see.”

He pauses for dramatic effect.

“The to-go box,” he continues.

Next, with a half-smile to the camera, he pops the big question: “Am I wrong for putting my phone on do not disturb?”

He clarifies that he “hit her back” once he got home.

But he still wants to know: “Am I wrong?”

Leftover-Gate

Viewers appreciated that Aramis was able to get the last laugh, as the woman was clearly in it for a free meal.

“She knew what she was doing having you spend that kind of money,” one user commented. “And you knew what you were doing putting her on DND. Even Steven.”

“No that’s an Uno Reverse …. enjoy it, I bet it was so good!” a second wrote.

“Absolutely not, she was gonna share that with her boyfriend,” a third speculated.

But other users were much more petty and argued they would take it a step further.

“I would’ve sent her a picture of the empty box after eating,” a third shared.

Another detailed, “That steak and egg would’ve been sitting next to some poached eggs in the morning.”

Who Gets The Leftovers?

Though the comments section is filled with gleeful remarks about Aramis “winning,” the question remains: Should he have kept the food?

And though the question isn’t that serious, it does nod towards the finer points of etiquette. The first one, as noted by Jodi R.R. Smith of Mannersmith Etiquette Consulting, is that on a first date (like in a client meeting or interview), the polite thing to do is leave the food.

However, if that’s not possible for whatever reason (including that the food was just too good), the gracious thing to do is let your companion choose what they’d like to take. In this case, Aramis’ manners were on point, as she was clearly planning to eat the leftovers.

If, based on her behavior, he extrapolated that she wasn’t quite interested in any date—not even the first one—well, who can blame him for eating the rest of the meal he paid for?
