Earlier this week, stand-up comedy legend Dave Chappelle returned to Netflix with his fifth special in the last couple of years: Sticks & Stones.
A direct response to the unending criticism he has faced in recent years, Sticks & Stones sees the iconic Chappelle’s Show comedian take at aim at the topics that he’s been constantly derided for joking about in recent years: Louis C.K., the LGBTQ community (specifically, transgender people), the Me Too movement, and so on and so forth.
And, to be honest, despite the fact that I’m a massive — absolutely massive — Dave Chappelle fan, even I have to admit that Sticks & Stones is the weakest of his Netflix specials thus far.
However, Chappelle on his worst day is far greater than most comedians on their best day, which makes Sticks & Stones still worth the watch — especially the secret footage that’s attached to the end.
If you allow the credits to play through until the end, Netflix will provide you with the option to play “Epilogue: The Punchline” (you know, similar to how it asks you to click “next episode” when you’re watching a series).
The footage was compiled during the encore Q&A sessions that Chappelle has been holding after his recent Broadway shows and tour with Jon Stewart.
Fielding questions from members of the audience, “Epilogue: The Punchline” — which is easily the most personal portion of the special — is arguably the strongest part of Sticks & Stones, as it allows the viewers to see the inner workings of Chappelle’s uniquely genius mind.
Dave Chappelle’s fifth Netflix special, ‘Sticks & Stones’, is now airing exclusively on Netflix.
