Here Are All Of The New Projects Announced By James Gunn And DC Studios

As promised, James Gunn and DC Studios have finally announced their plans for the future of the franchise, as news about what fans can expect in the coming years has begun to be officially released.

According to Gunn’s official announcement, the first chapter of the DCU is titled “Gods & Monsters” and will begin with the release of the film Superman: Legacy in 2025.

Here are all of the projects that Gunn and DC Studios have announced:

Superman: Legacy
Release Date: July 11, 2025

What we know: the official start of the DCU, Superman: Legacy will *not* be an origin story and will “focus on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing,” according to Gunn and DC.

The Batman – Part II (DC Elseworlds)
Release Date: October 3, 2025

What we know: a sequel to 2022’s The Batman, which features Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight and Matt Reeves’ as the director.

Joker: Folie à Deux (DC Elseworlds)
Release Date: October 4, 2024

What we know: Joaquin Phoenix returns to the role of Joker, which won him an Academy Award back in 2019. Lady Gaga has also joined the cast as Harley Quinn.

The Authority
Release Date: TBA

What we know: “DC’s WildStorm characters will join the DC Universe as members of The Authority take matters into their own hands to do what they believe is right,” says DC.

The Brave and the Bold
Release Date: TBA

What we know: The Brave and the Bold will introduce the DCU’s Batman and Robin (Damian Wayne) and will serve as the beginning of the Bat family in the franchise.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
Release Date: TBA

What we know: “Based on Tom King (and Bilquis Evely)’s wonderful comic… Kara was on Krypton. She was on a piece of Krypton that drifted away from the planet and she lived there for the first fourteen years of her life in a horrible situation where she watched everyone around her die. So, she’s a much harsher and more f***ed up Supergirl than you’ve been used to thus far,” said James Gunn.

Swamp Thing
Release Date: TBA

What we know: Swamp Thing will be a horror movie and, while not “tonally the same” as the DCU, will be interconnected nonetheless.

Creature Commandos
Release Date: 2024

What we know: James Gunn has already written the series himself and says it will be the first series in the DCU.

Waller
Release Date: 2024

What we know: the series will star Viola Davis and will be connected to Peacemaker.

Paradise Lost
Release Date: TBA

What we know: “A Game of Thrones-type story about Themyscira/Paradise Island, home of the Amazons and the birthplace of Wonder Woman,” says Peter Safran, co-CEO of DC Studios.
