Walmart Shopper Buys Can Of Del Monte Green Beans. Then She Opens Them, Sees What’s Lurking Inside: ‘These Companies Are Legit Cancelling Themselves’

One woman was in the middle of making dinner when she opened a can of green beans and froze. What was inside wasn’t what the label promised, and she soon learned she wasn’t the only one this had happened to.

What Did She Find?

TikTok user @a.haphazard.day shared a short clip showing herself opening a second can of Del Monte green beans she purchased at Walmart to prove the first one wasn’t a fluke.

She shows the label, which clearly reads “Fresh Cut Whole Green Beans,” and spins the can around for the camera so we can see the contents. Inside: sliced beets.

“Umm.. @Del Monte at our neighborhood Walmart,” she writes in the caption.

Her video got over 515,200 views and over 2,500 comments.

Some Commenters Say It Happened to Them Too

In the comments under the video, viewers found the situation ridiculous.

“Del Monte: Nothing BEETS a jet2 holiday,” one person joked.

“Has anyone opened a can of beets?” another asked. “Are there string beans in those cans?”

“These companies are legit cancelling themselves,” someone else added.

Other commenters blamed recent FDA rule changes by the Trump administration.

“Who knew deregulating food safety rules would be a bad idea,” one viewer wrote.

Surprisingly, several viewers say this exact mix-up happened to them.

“I’m in SC, I had 6 cans like this,” one person wrote, adding a photo that showed six Del Monte green bean cans, all containing sliced beets.

“There are so many videos of this happening!!!” another said.

There Are Indeed Others This Has Happened To

While Del Monte hasn’t offered an official explanation yet, this isn’t an isolated case.

Across TikTok, several shoppers say they’ve opened cans of Del Monte Fresh Cut Whole Green Beans only to find beets, or sometimes something else entirely.

One TikTok creator says they discovered beets instead of green beans while prepping Thanksgiving dinner, completely throwing off the meal plan. Another claims they found corn inside a can labeled as green beans. Someone else posted that they opened four cans in a row, and they all contained beets instead of the green beans they actually needed.

“People discovering Del Monte’s cans of green beans being filled with beets instead of green beans is the best metaphor for 2025,” one Threads user quipped.

These reports don’t confirm how widespread the issue is, but the volume of similar experiences suggests something is going wrong somewhere along the production or labeling line.

This also comes shortly after the FDA announced a recall of almost 200,000 Good & Gather Cut Green Beans, also produced by Del Monte, due to contamination concerns.

BroBible reached out to Del Monte via email for more information about what may be causing the mixups. BroBible also contacted @a.haphazard.day via TikTok direct message for comment.
