Every time Denzel Washington is on a promotional tour for a new movie, he displays the sort of “don’t give a damn” attitude that can only come with being 70-years-old and one of the greatest actors whose ever lived.
Late last year, while selling Gladiator 2, Denzel Washington was on fire during his promotional tour as he, among other viral moments: admitted to “shooting dope,” made King Charles wait on him because he “makes his own rules,” and revealed he kissed another male actor while filming Gladiator (the scene didn’t make the final cut).
Now, while out on the promotional trail for his new Spike Lee joint Highest 2 Lowest, Denzel Washington has been in a more combative mood, taking aim at the likes of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and young actors who have become famous for being popular and not talented.
During a recent interview with GQ, Washington also admitted to not walking movies anymore because he’s “tired of” them.
Denzel Washington says he doesn’t watch movies anymore because he’s ‘tired’ of them
“I don’t watch movies, man. I really don’t. I’m just being honest with you! I don’t watch movies! I don’t go to the movies. I don’t watch movies. … I’m tired of movies. Yeah,” Washington said.
Luckily for us, while Denzel may be tired of watching movies, he’s still game to star in them. Following Highest 2 Lowest, he’s rumored to have a role in Ryan Coogler’s third Black Panther movie.
Highest 2 Lowest is the fifth time that the iconic duo of Spike Lee and Denzel Washington have collaborated, following Mo’ Better Blues (1990), Malcolm X (1992), He Got Game (1998), and Inside Man (2006).
In addition to the two-time Oscar-winning Washington, Highest 2 Lowest — a reimagining of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 classic High and Low — also stars Jeffrey Wright, ASAP Rocky, Ilfenesh Hadera, Dean Winters, John Douglas Thompson, and Ice Spice in her feature film debut.
Highest 2 Lowest is now playing in select theaters and will begin streaming on AppleTV+ on September 5.
