Dolce & Gabbana Is Charging Over $100 For A Perfume For Dogs

It’s no secret dog owners will go to great lengths to spoil their pets, but I’d argue you need to do some soul-searching if you’re the kind of person who would drop more than $100 on a bottle of perfume designed with man’s best friend in mind.

As someone who’s been lucky enough to have dogs in my life for the majority of my time on this planet, I fully understand why it’s hard to resist the urge to shower them with toys, treats, and other gifts to thank them for the joy they’re able to bring into your life by merely existing.

I’ve easily spent thousands of dollars over the years for dog products that firmly fall under the “non-essential” umbrella, but at the risk of throwing stones inside a glass house, there’s a new item on the market that seems like the ultimate exercise in excess.

Luxury brands primarily cater to people with more money than they know what to do with, and their tendency to charge objectively offensive sums of money for products no one really needs is part of the strategy they harness to set themselves apart from companies that cater to Normal People.

That includes Dolce & Gabbana, the Italian fashion house known for the loud patterns that define its clothing, which has also done very well for itself with the help of its handbags, eyewear, and fragrances.

Earlier this week, the brand announced a new entry into that last category in the form of Fefé,  which it describes as an “alcohol-free scented mist” featuring a mix of ylang ylang, musk, and sandalwood that is essentially a perfume for dogs.

According to USA Today, the fragrance was inspired by D&G co-founder Domenico Dolce’s “unconditional love for his loyal dog Fefé,” and if you’re in the market for dog perfume, you can preorder a bottle—which boasts a “24-carat gold-plated paw”— that will set you back $108 (it’s obviously worth noting each one comes with a Dolce & Gabanna dog collar).

What a world.
