Despite having absolutely zero connection to politics, President Donald Trump used the horrific murders of Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer to score political points and take cheap shots at the recently deceased. The pair were found with their throats slit on Sunday, December 14.
In a shocking post on his social media site Truth Social, Donald Trump implied that Rob Reiner’s murder was because he angered people with his politics.
According to Trump, Reiner — the director of iconic films such as This Is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me, The Princess Bridge, Misery, When Harry Met Sally, and A Few Good Men — was “tortured and struggling,” and was killed “due to the anger he caused others through his… mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME.”
Rob Reiner’s 32-year-old son Nick , was arrested Monday morning in connection to the double homicide, was booked for murder, and is currently being held on $4 million bail.
President Trump’s shocking comments about Rob Reiner’s murder rejected by both prominent Republicans and Democrats
“A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS,” Trump posted on Monday.
“He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace!”
Trump’s sadistic shot at Reiner less than 24 hours after the news of his murder broke was swiftly rejected on social media, including by key members on both side of the political spectrum: MAGA firebrand Marjorie Taylor Greene, Republican congressman Thomas Massive, conservative political commentator Piers Morgan, and California governor Gavin Newsom.
Rob Reiner and his wife were tragically killed at the hands of their own son, who reportedly had drug addiction and other issues, and their remaining children are left in serious mourning and heartbreak.
This is a family tragedy, not about politics or political enemies.

This is a dreadful thing to say about a man who just got murdered by his troubled son.
Delete it, Mr President @realDonaldTrump . pic.twitter.com/LP9cTIPNiQ— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) December 15, 2025
Regardless of how you felt about Rob Reiner, this is inappropriate and disrespectful discourse about a man who was just brutally murdered. I guess my elected GOP colleagues, the VP, and White House staff will just ignore it because they’re afraid? I challenge anyone to defend it. pic.twitter.com/j3dvzRxLQJ

The positions of Greene and Newsom echoed the general opinion of social media, as many could not believe that even Trump would make such a comment in the immediate aftermath of such a gruesome tragedy.
