Winter is coming. There is nothing we can do to stop the frigid winds of change from bringing shorter days and icy weather to our doorstep but that, my dudes, does not mean we need to stop treating every day like it’s a Yacht Rock Day.

Yacht Rock isn’t just a seasonal radio channel on SiriusXM that gets relegated to the 300s in the offseason. It is a way of life. Yacht Rock is deciding today is the perfect time to crank up The Doobie Brothers on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert and appreciate the genius that is ‘Black Water.’

The song was recorded in 1973 and became an instant hit when it was released in 1974. This was the first #1 single The Doobie Brothers ever had and it holds up to this day.

If listening to that didn’t put you in a better mood then I’m not quite sure what can be done for you today. Drink some more water, go for a run, lift some weights, and maybe you’ll see a lightening of your mood.

I’ve already done all of those things today though so this live performance from the NPR studios put me in a great headspace.

It isn’t fair to say that NPR has been striking out lately with their Tiny Desk Concert selections. They had Tame Impala on two weeks ago and Guster two months ago.

But for the most part, I haven’t found myself looking forward to these performances as much as in years past. That could be on me though. Perhaps it is time for me to branch out more and listen to newer music.
