Dunkin’ Releases Ad Mocking American Eagle’s Viral ‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans’ Campaign

Dunkin/American Eagles

Dunkin’ has released an ad featuring The Summer I Turned Pretty star Gavin Casalegno that serves as a clear shot to the American Eagle “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans” ad campaign. American Eagle’s campaign with Sweeney has sparked debate since debuting last week.

Sydney Sweeney’s new American Eagle campaign — called “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans” — has received backlash from some online for seemingly promoting eugenics.

One ad that’s received particular attention, and the one that Dunkin’ mocked with their new commercial, sees Sweeney detail how “great jeans” — eye color, hair color, and personality — are passed down through generations.

Politicians such as Ted Cruz jumped on the opportunity to politicize the strictly online social media discourse, claiming that “the Left has come out against beautiful women.”

“Look, I didn’t ask to be the king of summer, it just kinda happened,” Casalegno says. “This tan? Genetics.”

“Can’t help it — every time I drink a Golden Hour Refresher, it’s like the sun just finds me. So if sipping these refreshers makes me the king of summer? Guilty as charged.”

When announcing the project, Jennifer Foyle, President and Executive Creative Director – AE & Aerie, said that “with Sydney Sweeney front and center, she brings the allure, and we add the flawless wardrobe for the winning combo of ease, attitude and a little mischief.”

“There is something so effortless about American Eagle – it’s the perfect balance of being put-together but still feeling like yourself,” Sweeney said in a statement attached to the launch.

“Their commitment to creating pieces that make you feel confident and comfortable in your own skin is something that resonates with me. It’s rare to find a brand that grows with you, the way American Eagle has for generations. They have literally been there with me through every version of myself.”

The 27-year-old bombshell actress — who will next be seen starring in the films Americana on August 15 and Eden on August 22 — has yet to respond to the backlash.
