One of the running bits (pun intended) throughout the course of Edgar Wright’s The Running Man is a dystopian future reality show that’s very clearly modeled after the Kardashians. Sitting down with Wright to discuss the release of The Running Man on digital this week, we dug a little deeper into how those scenes came to be.
According to Edgar Wright — the beloved director known for his films such as Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Baby Driver — he and his team actually reached out to the Kardashian’s production team to get some more information about how they shoot the series in order to perfect the parody.
In The Running Man, the reality TV family is called the “Americanos” — portrayed by English comedians Debi Mazar, Cat Cohen, and Emma Sidi — and they’re very clearly modeled after the Kardashians, from the way they dress to the way they speak.
Writer and director Edgar Wright reached out to the Kardashian’s production team to figure out how to perfect satirizing them in The Running Man
“We did actually get in touch with the Kardashians production team to ask them about their sort of tech specs of how they do the show,” Wright explained to BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast. “How many cameras they have going, how it plays out [when they film]. So basically set up these scenarios and three cameras going and just let those guys [the Americano actors] rip.”

Alongside Glen Powell in the lead role of Ben Richards, The Running Man also stars Josh Brolin, William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, Daniel Ezra, Jayme Lawson, Sean Hayes, Colman Domingo.
