Elon Musk is finally sharing his thoughts on the TikTok ban. On Saturday night, the app briefly went offline in the United States, months after the government passed a law banning it unless it was sold to a US company.
Not long after the app went dark, TikTok returned after President Trump vowed to approve an executive order keeping it live for another 90 days until they can strike a deal.
“I will issue an executive order on Monday to extend the period of time before the law’s prohibitions take effect, so that we can make a deal to protect our national security. The order will also confirm that there will be no liability for any company that helped keep TikTok from going dark before my order,”
“I would like the United States to have a 50% ownership position in a joint venture. By doing this, we save TikTok, keep it in good hands and allow it to say up,”
Musk, who is close to Trump, says that he disagreed with the TikTok ban would like to see China unban Twitter/X from their country.
“I have been against a TikTok ban for a long time, because it goes against freedom of speech.”
“That said, the current situation where TikTok is allowed to operate in America, but 𝕏 is not allowed to operate in China is unbalanced.”
“Something needs to change.”
