HBO’s Euphoria was once one of the network’s most popular shows. It debuted in 2019 and launched Sydney Sweeney’s career while helping to propel Zendaya into the upper echelons of the Hollywood stratosphere, but the most recent episode debuted on February 27, 2022 and it has felt like season 3 might never premiere… until now.
The first Euphoria Season 3 trailer just dropped and there is a LOT to digest. I thought we could go frame by frame to break down any details people might be missing since it has been years since it was last on TV. Before you click ‘play’ on the trailer below know that the show does have some more mature elements to it.
Everything You Might’ve Missed From The ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 Trailer
The first Euphoria Season 3 trailer opens up with Rue Bennett (Zendaya) running away from friends and family, a throwback to one of the most emotionally exhausting TV episodes ever produced about the perils of addiction. Truly, I needed to go for a calming walk after watching that hectic episode. So it makes perfect sense they would open the show up with one of their finest cinematic achievements.
Voice over kicks in with Rue (Zendaya) saying it is “a few years after high school” as the camera zooms in on someone sorting bags of white and blue pharmaceutical pills. These could be any number of drugs so I won’t speculate exactly what is what.
Rue continues, saying “I don’t know if life was exactly what I wished” as a dancer brushes up against her and Rue hands her a small bag, presumably with drugs inside.
The Euphoria Season 3 trailer then jumps to Rue inside of a Church holding a 10 Commandments pamphlet as the voice over continues saying “for the first time, I was beginning to have faith.” The ‘faith’ here is obviously a double entendre, both faith in God as she’s seen praying in Church and faith in her life as she’s attempting to recover from being a junkie.
We then jump to Rue working in ‘The Smoke Shack’ which appears to be a drive-thru tobacco and alcohol kiosk. It is there she’s revisited by Laurie, the drug lord played by actress Martha Kelly, who appeared in 3 episodes of Season 2 and who Rue owes a LOT of money to.
Laurie pulling up on Rue with a handful of armed muscle seems like overkill to be honest. She knows Rue, and presumably knows that Rue isn’t the kind of person to have a bazooka sitting under the desk.
From there, we jump to a scene where Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) is shaking it all for the camera. Very soon, we see Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi) coming home to her while someone else is filming her in her bedroom. It is at this point that it clicks that Cassie’s character (played by Sydney Sweeney) is making high-production value content for a service like OF or other subscription based service.

Simultaneously, there is this guy saying he is “of the belief that certain people are just cursed” to someone out of the frame of view. I believe they want us to think he is speaking to Rue here but it is unclear:

He is wearing all plastic. The floor is coated in plastic. This is obviously a murder/torture scene of some sort based on every other Hollywood interpretation of how those things go.
Then we see Jacob saying he works all day as he walks into the room of Cassie (Sydney) posing scantily on the bed “while (his) bride to be is spread on the Internet” to which Cassie responds “I was just making content.” Noticeably, there’s not a single recognizable character at the table for their wedding:

I think we know who the bread winner is in this relationship now. Then we see shots of their picture perfect wedding before it jumps back to the killer/torturer speaking to Rue who is eyeing him up.
Maude Apatow’s character, Lexi Howard, makes multiple appearances. She asks Rue “you hear about Jules?” referring to Rue’s ex, Jules Vaughn, played by Hunter Schaefer.
This is where Jules enters the Euphoria Season 3 trailer, around the 1-minute mark. Then we get montage shots of mansion parties, voice over from the dude who is ready to cut someone up, and it is at this point we are introduced to what seems to be the new crime lord of Season 3 who asks Rue why she hasn’t introduced herself.
It then quickly jumps to a scene of them shooting clay targets from a porch off into the desert. We get it, he has guns. After this, it becomes obvious this person owns and operates a cabaret-style establishment of some sort.

Someone says ‘faith’ again. They’re clearly trying to make a point here. We then get a scene of the new guy arguing with Laurie, saying “I’ll take her” while Laurie claps back “Rue belongs to us” as if she’s being traded like a commodity which she very well might be.
Around 1:43 we see that Rue has acquired a gun or guns herself. And not just any gun. All while she’s doing voice over about making a deal with the devil.
Season 3 of Euphoria will premiere on April 12 on HBO Max. That’s 88 days from now for those keeping track at home.
