People Who’ve Never Seen ‘Euphoria’ Are Stunned By How Bad A Clip For The S2 Finale Looks

'Euphoria' S2 Finale Shootout Clip Featuring Fezco Goes Viral (Video)

HBO

  • The season two finale of HBO’s Euphoria aired on Sunday, February 27.
  • A clip from one of the episode’s climactic moments has been going viral in the days since.
  • Fans who have never seen the show seem to be surprised by its tone, comparing it to a soap opera.

You know, I was recently considering catching up on Euphoria. Not only is the high school-set series a massive cultural success in terms of how it captured the attention of the zeitgeist, but it’s also become quite the business hit for HBO as it’s now their second-most-watched series since 2004 behind only the staggeringly global Game of Thrones.

But, man, after accidentally but also happily stumbling upon this clip on Twitter — one that’s being compared to soap operas and farcical Seinfeld scenes — I’m not sure I’m ever going to commit myself to a Euphoria binge watch.

Granted, while it’s unfair to judge any piece of art based on a two-minute-long out-of-context social media clip, when something that’s supposed to be a dramatic highpoint feels this much like a parody of itself, it’s tough to shake that feeling. Plus, of all the things I’ve heard about Euphoria, the most common comment I’ve come across is how unrealistic its portrayal of high school is, which — I don’t know about you — certainly feels like the case when you see a SWAT team unloading their machine guns at an alleged teenager.

I actually think I’m going to make my own version of Euphoria: it’s going to be one episode long and everyone’s parents are going to beat their ass, then they’ll all go off to college, get good grades, and lead happy and healthy lives.
