‘Extraction 3’ Will Happen If Sequel Performs, Chris Hemsworth Will Return And Story Is Already ‘In Development’ (Exclusive)

Chris Hemsworth as Tyler Rake in extraction 2

Netflix

While Extraction 2 has yet to debut on Netflix, wheels are in motion in the development of a third film, according to director Sam Hargrave, the long-time stuntman and stunt coordinator who made his feature film directorial debut with 2020’s Extraction.

Speaking to BroBible’s Post-Credit Podcast, Hargrave said that if the upcoming sequel is “well received” by fans, then a third film in the series will be greenlit.

In fact, the story is already in the works and franchise star Chris Hemsworth has confirmed that he’s game to return for a third adventure as the “Myth of Mumbai” Tyler Rake.

“We’re kind of waiting to see how the second movie is received,” Hargrave told BroBible’s Post-Credit Podcast.

“Fingers crossed, if people enjoy the second one, there already is — and this is without spoiling anything — but there is a story in development for a third movie in the works. What it is exactly, I can’t say right now, but I believe there is another adventure in the wind for Tyler Rake.”

We then asked Hargrave what Hemsworth’s current status with the franchise is, given that he recently announced he was planning to take a step back from acting in order to spend time with his family. Hargrave, however, says that once Hemsworth is ready, he’s game for a third Extraction film.

“He is taking a step back to spend more time with family because he is a family man and that’s very important to him, and enjoy the life that he’s earned,” Hargrave told us. “But the desire to take this character as far as it can go, and the fact that he has a franchise outside of the Marvel universe I think are two things that are very enticing to Chris.”

“Because to be heading a franchise that has the emotional core and depth that Tyler Rake does, and still have this globe-trotting, action grittiness to it — I think those are two pretty cool characteristics and I think he recognizes that. So when we spoke, yes, he said he would be interested in perhaps reprising the role,” he said.

Extraction 2, which also stars Golshifteh Farahani, Adam Bessa, Olga Kurylenko, Daniel Bernhardt, and Tinatin Dalakishvili alongside Hemsworth, will hit Netflix on Friday, June 16. The first film is also currently streaming on Netflix. Make sure to check back here around that date for our full interview with Hargrave.
