U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers assigned to the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility in Texas made a massive drug bust last week. More than a ton of meth was seized in a single law enforcement action when a tractor trailer was pulled over for a secondary inspection.
On January 8, CBP officers selected for inspection a tractor trailer making entry into the United States from Mexico. Using non-intrusive inspection (NII) equipment and screening by a canine team, the officers physically inspected the shipment and found 398 packages of alleged methamphetamine weighing nearly 2,379 pounds concealed within the trailer.
The CBP officers then seized the narcotics and vehicle. The driver of the tractor trailer is now part of a criminal investigation being conducted by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents.
Just two days prior to the massive drug smuggling bust, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility intercepted and seized $7.77 million worth of meth that was hidden within a shipment of limes.
“This massive load of harmful narcotics will not make it to American streets thanks to our vigilant CBP officers who continue to thwart these smuggling attempts,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.

Meanwhile, on January 5th over in Calexico, California at the West Port of Entry, CBP officers intercepted 152.20 pounds of methamphetamine concealed under the rear seats, floor, and fenders of a 2024 pickup truck. The drugs were discovered using non-intrusive imaging technology, which revealed irregularities within the front passenger and rear seats.
“This interception underscores the officers’ continued diligence and commitment to national security,” said Roque Caza, Area Port Director of Calexico. “I am extremely proud of our officers’ exceptional ability to remain steadfast and vigilant while carrying out our mission and keeping our communities safe.”
