U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Brownsville Port of Entry had themselves a day in on single bust last week. Because in just one enforcement action, they caught a 21-year-old American female trying to cross the border with over $1.1 million in alleged meth in her car.
The massive drug seizure occurred on November 19, 2024, at the Gateway International Bridge in Brownsville, Texas. It happened because a Customs and Border Protection officer, after examining a 2014 Nissan, decided to send the vehicle for a secondary inspection.
Using a canine unit and a non-intrusive inspection system (NII), the CBP officers found 43 packages hidden within the Nissan. Inside those 43 packages was a total of 124.29 pounds of alleged methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $1,111,137.
“This significant methamphetamine seizure underscores the commitment of our officers in upholding our border security mission and the results achieved through the effective application of CBP officer training, experience and technology,” said Port Director Tater Ortiz, Brownsville Port of Entry.
CBP officers seized the drugs and vehicle, while Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents arrested the 21-year-old female driver.

That significant drug seizure followed two others that occurred on Nov. 12 and 14 when Customs and Border Protection officers at the Brownsville Port of Entry confiscated narcotics with a combined estimated street value of $768,867 in two separate enforcement actions.
The first bust involved a 37-year-old male United States citizen attempting to enter the United States in a 2010 Nissan. When his vehicle was pulled over for a secondary inspection, CBP officers discovered nine packages hidden within the vehicle which contained a total of 21.95 pounds of alleged cocaine with an estimated street value of $293,182.
Then, on Nov. 14 at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge, a 28-year-old male United States citizen was arrested when the vehicle he was driving, a 2006 Hummer, was found to have 15 packages hidden inside the vehicle. Those packages contained a total of 35.62 pounds of alleged cocaine with an estimated street value of $475,685.
