Federal Officers Seize Record-Breaking 48 Million Worth Of Meth

U.S. Customs and Border Protection

United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP)officers just keep breaking records with the amounts of illegal drugs they have been seizing at ports of entry.

The latest record-breaking bust took place at Pharr International Bridge in Texas when CBP officers intercepted 3,429.40 pounds of alleged methamphetamine concealed within a tractor trailer.

“On August 1, CBP officers assigned to the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility encountered a tractor trailer making entry from Mexico,” a Customs and Border Protection press release reads.

“The tractor trailer was selected for inspection, which included utilization of non-intrusive inspection (NII) equipment. After physically inspecting the shipment, officers extracted 1,488 packages of alleged methamphetamine weighing 3,429.60 pounds (1555.55 kg) concealed within the shipment of lettuce.

“This seizure of alleged methamphetamine is the larges methamphetamine encounter in the history of the Hidalgo Port of Entry and has a street value of over $48 million.”

This massive drug seizure comes on the heels of another record-breaker. Earlier this month, it was reported that CBP officers at the Port of Lukeville in Tuscon, Arizona confiscated 234 packages weighing more than 1,000 pounds that contained approximately 4 million blue fentanyl pills.

“Our CBP officers remain vigilant and intercepted this massive methamphetamine load from reaching American streets,” Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry, said abut the huge meth seizure. “Congratulations to our diligent officers who made this record-breaking interception!”

The record-breaking meth seizure in Pharr, Texas also comes just one month after CBP officers at Pharr International Bridge seized $5.1 million worth of meth hidden inside a tractor trailer hauling a shipment of cucumbers and bell peppers.

“Our frontline CBP officers continue to deploy a strategic combination of inspections experience coupled with technology and that effort yielded this significant methamphetamine seizure,” Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Laredo Port of Entry, said about that bust. “These types of seizures illustrate CBP’s efforts to protect our communities from the spread of hard narcotics.”
