Netflix has released the first official teaser trailer for Happy Gilmore 2, the sequel to Adam Sandler’s beloved 90’s golf comedy Happy Gilmore. The official release date for the film was also announced; Friday, July 25.
Happy Gilmore, released in 1996, quickly became one of the defining films of Adam Sandler’s young career alongside additional comedies such as Billy Madison, The Waterboy, The Wedding Singer, and Big Daddy. At this time, Happy Gilmore is the only one of those films to get a sequel, and almost 30 years after the release of the original.
While Netflix has dropped the trailer and release date for Happy Gilmore 2, the plot synopsis remains a mystery as the official logline released with this teaser simply reads “Happy Gilmore returns!”
“It’s been almost 30 years since we last saw Happy Gilmore, the long-driving hero who won in the Tour Championship in 1996. Now, we finally get to catch up with him in a new sequel,” Netflix said when announcing the film last year.
“That’s right, Adam Sandler is returning to the golf green as Happy Gilmore, and he’s bringing along a few new and familiar faces.”
Happy Gilmore 2 is now the 12th project that Sandler has done with Netflix following The Ridiculous 6, The Do-Over, Sandy Wexler, The Week Of, Murder Mystery, Hubie Halloween, Hustle, Murder Mystery 2, You Are So Not invited to My Bat Mitzvah, Leo, and Spaceman.
In addition to Sandler in the lead role, Happy Gilmore 2 also sees actors such as Julie Bowen (Virginia Venit, Happy’s love interest), Christopher McDonald (Shooter McGavin), Allen Covert, Dennis Dugan, and Ben Stiller reprising their roles from the original film.
New cast members in Happy Gilmore 2 include Maxwell Jacob Friedman, Scott Mescudi, Margaret Qualley, Benny Safdie, Blake Clark, and Nick Swardson. Celebrities/athletes such as Bad Bunny, Travis Kelce, Eminem, John Daly, Will Zalatoris, Justin Thomas, Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Paige Spiranic and more.
