‘New Money-Coded’: Florida Bartender Of 10 Years Reveals What Your Drink Order Says About You. It’s Super Specific

You may or may not know it, but your bartender’s judging you based on your drink of choice. A Miami, Florida-based bartender and TikTok creator, Olive (@mx.ollipop), shared specific details about these “judgements” in a now‑viral slideshow, which has garnered over 8 million views. With nearly a decade of experience behind the bar, they put together a list of what different drink orders say about the people who order them, from Aperol spritzes to Long Island Iced Teas.

The slideshow opens with them behind the bar, captioned, “What I think your drink order says about you, as a bartender of almost a decade.”

From there, they spare no one.

‘What I Think Your Drink Order Says About You’

French 75 drinkers, for instance, are “either a trust fund baby or over the age of 60.” Aperol spritz fans are “new money-coded” and “probably just got back from vacation at the Amalfi Coast.”

Margaritas, on the other hand, are a safe bet for “laid‑back” people—unless you swap the salt for sugar.

Bloody Marys earned their praise for being “a meal and a buzz in one finely crafted cocktail,” while Moscow Mule drinkers were read for filth. “You have IBS,” Olive wrote. “I don’t make the rules.”

They called dirty martinis “class and elegance,” wrote that anyone ordering anything frozen “hates their bartender and wants us to suffer,” and said skinny margaritas give “first‑date energy.”

Mai Tai fans “probably don’t frequent bars or have industry experience,” old-fashioned drinkers are “old souls,” espresso martini lovers are “very Palm Beach-coded,” and Negroni drinkers? “Masochists,” they joked, adding, “This s— is foul, but I don’t judge.”

Vodka or tequila with soda earned a genuine “why?” while Long Island iced tea drinkers were dubbed “people who have something going on at home.”

They wrapped up the post with a photo of themself captioned, “I’ve been sober for 18 days :).” Recently, they shared a follow‑up on their sobriety journey, announcing they’ve officially hit the one‑month mark.

Is This Common Among Other Bartenders?

As it turns out, yes. On Reddit, bartenders have admitted they size up customers by their drink orders, though often with more humor than malice.
In a thread on r/bartenders, user @NawabSnyder asked, “Question for all bartenders – do you judge customers based on the drinks they order?”

“It’s funny, if you ask for Fernet and soda, I assume you bartend,” one commenter wrote. “If you ask for “well whiskey and ginger”, I assume you bartend. If you ask for ‘Hennesy and apple juice’ or ‘Ciroc Apple and cranberry’ I know right away you’re gonna be tough to deal with.”

Another added, “Judge is a little stiff. Let’s say I make assumptions about people based on what they order.”

‘I Can’t Believe You Did Negronis Like That’

People in the comments were thoroughly entertained by the descriptions. So much so that Olive actually posted a part two.

“As a broke, 27‑year‑old French 75 drinker I’m glad you think I have money,” one viewer joked. “I am convinced people pretend to like Aperol spritz,” another added. “I can’t believe you did Negronis like that,” a third wrote. And one Moscow Mule fan chimed in: “Like yes, I need the ginger beer for my tummy. How did you know?”
