A Florida man dressed in Batman pajamas stopped an alleged burglar working in his neighborhood in Cape Coral early Wednesday morning. The man, Kyle Myvett, was awakened at around 2 a.m. by an alert from his home security system. That’s when he sprung into action.
After checking his home security cameras, Myvett noticed a young man saw “rummaging through his truck.” After further investigation, he “found the same suspect in his neighbor’s garage and detained him until officers arrived.”
“I knew for some reason I should have worn that particular outfit,” he told WINK News.
Dressed in his Batman PJs, Myvett said he grabbed the alleged burglar by the shirt and by his right wrist and told him, “Hey, it’s in your best interest to just sit down and comply.”
He’s the hero Florida deserves…
“In the light of integrity… It’s not in me to just stand there and be a coward when I see that something needs to be done,” he added.
The Cape Coral Police Department arrived shortly thereafter and reported that the suspect had broken into several vehicles and a garage, stealing Ray-Ban sunglasses, cash, $500 in gift cards, and other items.
“Thanks to a quick-thinking neighbor in his Batman pajamas, another burglary suspect was put behind bars,” police said in a statement.
The police, however, don’t recommend doing what Myvett did, regardless of whether you are wearing Batman pajamas or not. Instead, they suggested surveillance cameras and quick 911 calls are the best way to handle situations like that.
The city is full of people ready to believe in good
“I would never go as far as to encourage people to always do something like this because every circumstance is different,” said Lisa Greenberg of the Cape Coral Police Department. “It’s just a prime example of what we can do if we all work together as a community.”
“Hopefully, we can just be better at being better people and stop focusing on just ourselves and try to figure out how we can help our community in a non-selfish way. And then this way everyone’s taking care of each other,” Kyle Myvett added.
The suspect was charged with two counts of burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, two counts of petit theft under $750, and one count of burglary of an occupied dwelling.
