A replica version of the iconic ‘General Lee‘ car from Dukes of Hazzard flew more than 150 feet into the air when it jumped over a public fountain in Kentucky over the weekend. It came scarily close to disaster as a cameraman hired to film the spectacle scrambled to avoid an ugly, potentially fatal collision.
He just barely got out of the way.
Dukes of Hazzard ran for 147 over seven seasons between 1979 and 1985. The action-comedy television series focused on two cousins, Bo and Luke Duke, as they attempted to outwit local law enforcement in rural Georgia. They often performed crazy stunts in the vehicle to avoid arrest. Their car is the most iconic character from the show— a 1969 Dodge Charger nicknamed the ‘General Lee.’
Raymond Kohn of the Northeast Ohio Dukes STUNTLIFE performed a similar stunt over the weekend at the Somernites Cruises’ 25th annual classic car cruise in Somerset, Kentucky. He got behind the wheel of a Crown Victoria painted to look like the General Lee, put the pedal to the metal, and jumped over a fountain at the center of the town square.

Kohn successfully landed the jump. However, the car veered hard to the right upon landing, lost a door and smashed into one of the protective borders.

Kohn walked away from the jump unscathed. The same cannot be said for the car, which was pretty beat up and needed to be towed.
Multiple angles of the jump show the car barrel toward a nearby cameraman as it skids out of control. You cannot see where he goes or whether he is okay.
It was sketchy!
Fortunately, Allie McGuire was standing on the other side of the fountain to get the video we all needed. The camera man just barely got out of the way. He somehow escaped beyond the cement block barricade.
It was a matter of milliseconds and inches from a tragic catastrophe.
That could’ve been a lot worse. Northeast Ohio Dukes STUNTLIFE co-producer Mike Kolovich saved his gear and his body! He made an impressive effort to get out of the way. Everybody and everything was okay.
