Makeup’s one of those deceptively tough skills. It’s kind of like merging into Atlanta traffic or setting a hook. It’s not just about the technique for laying down the perfect cat’s eye; it’s about innate understanding. There’s nuance, color, and trends. And knowing what to use and when (like wax vs. water-based product).
For @mortuarymasterclass, the challenge is even bigger: He needs his clients to look more than good; they need to look alive. And this Georgia-based TikToker, professor, and licensed mortician knows more than a few things about putting color (back) in cheeks.
But he’s also a girl dad who sometimes wants to help his tiny dancer shine—especially when she needs to slay at a dance competition.
Scary Good Makeup
In a TikTok video, @mortuarymasterclass expertly applies foundation, blush, and eyeshadow to a little strawberry blonde girl. Like anyone getting their makeup done, she’s holding very still. One twitch, and the eyeliner is ruined.
Look more carefully at the video, and you’ll see she’s not sitting. She’s resting there, completely motionless. Then the caption hits. It reads, “When your dad’s a mortician, he can nail your dance makeup, but only if you’re laying perfectly still…”
Dark and a little creepy? Absolutely. But also kind of sweetly wholesome.
Dead Can Dance?
People online are screaming in delight over this video, which garnered more than 4.2 million views and 445,000 likes.
“The eyeliner is giving ‘I’m not used to them moving,'” one viewer remarked.
“The fact that he may have to keep up with current makeup trends is hilarious to me,” another said.
Of course you can’t have “dad content” without “dad jokes.” “She’s lucky, most people are dying to get their makeup done by him,” a third quipped.
Then there’s the small but vocal contingent of women who also had mortician fathers. “I’m cracking up-my dad is a mortician as well and he used to cover all my teenage blemishes for me-the rule was I had to lay down and hold my breath,” remembered another TikToker.
Real Talk, Mortician Style
@mortuarymasterclass’ TikTok bio says he’s here for “funeral facts, grief education, and real talk from a working mortician/professor.”
Though a quick scan of his page reveals this isn’t the first time his daughter has had to hold very, very still, it also reveals a warm and fuzzy approach to talking about the big inevitable that will eventually come for us all.
On his page, he addresses issues like cremation myths, funeral planning, and end-of-life wishes, down to paperwork and music. The result? He makes death feel less daunting, like something we can all prepare for.
That being said, he also gives tips on steps to avoid “spending time with a mortician.” One of those tips? Getting your steps in, literally. He also says, “Put the phone down while driving. Don’t eat old food. And clean out dryer lint.”
