Los Angeles Woman Takes Knife To Giant Ferrero Rocher Ball. What’s Inside Has Her Demanding Answers: ‘Anxiously Awaiting Your Reply’

Chocolates and treats are one of the best parts of any holiday. There’s just something about seasonal packaging that makes you expect more than the standard, year-round version you grab off the shelf on a random Tuesday.

That’s why one Los Angeles woman felt especially let down when she cracked open a giant Ferrero Rocher chocolate ball and realized the sad truth: it’s hollow.

In a TikTok video that got over 9.1 million views at the time of writing, creator Hayley (@hayleyrecommends) shared a video of herself taking a knife to the oversized gold-wrapped ball.

Instead of uncovering layers of chocolate or some kind of surprise center, she slices into what turns out to be just air.

“Ferrero Rocher, we need to talk,” she writes in the video’s text overlay, pairing the reveal with the iconic Nathan For You audio: “I hope you’re hungry… for nothing.”

In the caption, she tags the brand directly. “@ferrerorocher anxiously awaiting your reply,” she wrote.

Candy Companies Take Over The Comments

The comments section became a mix of jokes, brand pile-ons, and genuine confusion, with several well-known food brands jumping in to react.

Welch’s Fruit Snacks wrote, “oh nah.”

Candy Funhouse followed with, “unacceptable..”

Even Denny’s Canada chimed in, adding, “Where is it. This is not a yolking matter.”

Other viewers, however, pushed back, arguing that the product wasn’t misleading at all.

“This what you’re talking about? something CLEARLY LABELED AS BEING A SHELL WITH AN IMAGE?” one person wrote, attaching an image of promotional packaging that shows the chocolate broken open and visibly hollow inside.

“It’s supposed to be some Ferrero Rocher inside,” another commenter insisted.

“They gave you all Ferrero and no Rochere,” someone else joked.

Was There Supposed To Be Anything Inside This Chocolate Ball?

As it turns out, the answer depends on which version of the product you buy.

Ferrero sells several different “Grand” or oversized Ferrero Rocher products. One version includes two standard Ferrero Rocher chocolates inside the shell, and others are completely hollow by design.

In some cases, the packaging clearly states that the item is hollow. In others, that detail appears in smaller print or is implied through product images rather than spelled out directly on the front.

To make things more confusing, some retailers even categorize certain Grand Ferrero Rocher balls as decorative items. In those listings, the product is described as an ornament, meant to be hung on a Christmas tree or used as seasonal decor.

Based on how Ferrero labels its products, whenever there is something inside one of these oversized chocolates, the packaging usually spells it out explicitly. If the label doesn’t mention a filling or additional chocolates inside, there’s a good chance the ball is hollow.

The TikToker Realizes Her Mistake

In a follow-up video, Hayley addresses the backlash and explains how the mix-up happened in the first place.

“Everyone is so mad that I didn’t read the label,” she begins, before saying she wanted to “clarify a few things.”

She explains that she grabbed the chocolate while checking out at CVS. “It was above the belt. I grabbed it, put it on the belt, went from the belt to the bag with a bunch of other stuff,” she says, adding that she put it in her boyfriend’s stocking and she “wasn’t clocking” the weight of it at the time.

Hayley also pushes back on the idea that the product was clearly labeled as hollow. “I swear it did not have that little tag on it that says ‘hollow chocolate’ hanging from the bow,” she says. “It had the bow. It had the Ferrero Rocher sticker.”

After people pointed it out, she says she checked again later. “I flipped it over last night, and on the bottom it says in very small print where the ingredients are hollow chocolate,” she explains. “False advertising, but it’s there.”

She also admits she didn’t look closely because she was excited. “I don’t read labels,” she says. “I was just excited about it. It was cute. So I threw it in the cart.”

Hayley makes it clear the post wasn’t meant to be taken seriously. “This is a joke, obviously,” she says. “I don’t expect them to do anything.”
