While James Gunn and DC Studios won’t be presenting at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, reports indicate that the burgeoning superhero cinematic universe will be making news this weekend all the same.

According to a report from Variety, despite having been in production on Superman for a few months now and releasing The Penguin in September, DC Studios opted not to do a panel at the high-profile fan event in California.

Despite this, however, reports indicate the Warner Bros. subsidiary plans to break news all the same.

The rebooted DC Studios is largely sitting out this year’s convention; co-studio chief James Gunn couldn’t fit in an appearance between his directing duties on Superman and Season 2 of Peacemaker. But the upcoming HBO series The Penguin with Colin Farrell and the Max animated shows Harley Quinn and spinoff Kite Man: Hell Yeah! are scheduled to appear, and an insider says DC Studios still plans to break some news. But what could that news be? News so big that it makes headlines despite all of the other splashy news being rolled out by their competitors. Well, it might involve newly-minted A-lister Glen Powell.

Earlier this week — surely convenient timing — eagle-eyed fans noticed that Glen Powell began following DC Studios boss James Gunn, and Superman stars David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan. Most interestingly, however, is that he followed Andy Muschietti, the It and The Flash director who has been tapped to helm the DCU’s Batman film, The Brave and the Bold.

Given that Powell has classic movie star looks, he certainly has the Bruce Wayne part of the job done. He also has the build to physically pull off playing the Dark Knight. But would be be believable as Batman? That’s not as quantifiable. People couldn’t wrap their heads around Michael Keaton as the character when he was first cast and now almost 40 years later he’s still considered to be the best to ever do it. Still, given the hot streak that Powell is on, it certainly wouldn’t be wise to put it past him.
