The James Gunn-led DCU, Warner Bros. Discovery’s franchise reboot of its DC Comics properties, officially kicks off next summer with the release of Superman, which is being directed by Gunn himself.
In addition to Superman, there’s a bevy of further projects in the works at DC Studios, including films such as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Swamp Thing, and The Authority, and series such as Creature Commandos, Peacemaker (season 2), Waller, Paradise Lost, Booster Gold, and Lanterns, a project about the Green Lanterns.
The Green Lanterns being “relegated” to television is an interesting decision by Gunn and Warner Bros. because, other than Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and The Flash, he’s the biggest DC Comics character to have not gotten a movie in the post-modern superhero movie era (which we’ll say began with the release of Avengers and the true dawn of the “cinematic universe” concept in 2012).
Despite Lanterns being designated for either HBO or MAX (if it’s on the former, it’ll stream on the latter, as well), there are reportedly numerous A-listers being considered for the part, as rumors indicate that Oscar nominee Josh Brolin has been offered the role of Hal Jordan, while further rumors indicate that Matthew McConaughey and Ewan McGregor are also in contention for the role should Brolin decline.

Earlier this year, it was announced that I, Tonya and Cruella filmmaker Craig Gillespie would be helming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which cast House of the Dragon season one breakout Milly Alcock in the lead role of Kara Zor-El.
The Flash director Andy Muschietti has been tapped to direct Batman: The Brave and the Bold (although, given the vitriolic response to that film, it’s possible that changes as the project does not have a release date), while Logan and Indiana Jones 5 director James Mangold is attached to Swamp Thing. Reports have indicated, however, that Mangold will begin work on his Star Wars Jedi movie after the release of his Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, and not Swamp Thing.
