Adam Sandler Officially Returning As Happy Gilmore, Sequel In The Works At Netflix

Adam Sandler is returning as Happy Gilmore as a sequel to his beloved 90s golf comedy is officially in development. While Universal Pictures distributed the original Happy Gilmore, the upcoming sequel will be a Netflix film.

Happy Gilmore is one of the defining roles of Sandler’s career and made over $40 million at the box office when it was released in 1996.

The film features Sandler as the titular Happy Gilmore, an aggressive wannabe hockey player who discovers a talent for golf after he learns he has an incredible drive using his slap shot technique.

In addition to Sandler, Happy Gilmore starred Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen, and the late Carl Weathers.

Additional cast members in the original Happy Gilmore included Frances Bay, Allen Covert, Kevin Nealon, Peter Kelamis, Richard Kiel, Dennis Dugan, Joe Flaherty, Jared Van Snellenberg, Robert Smigel, Will Sasso, Bob Barker, Berne Lundquist, and Ben Stiller in an uncredited cameo.

Sandler has had an extensive relationship with Netflix since signing a $250 million deal with the streaming giant and has produced/starred in 15 movies for the company since 2015, among them being The Ridiculous 6, Sandy WexlerMurder Mystery and its sequel, Hustle, and most recently, Spaceman, which premiered in March.

Happy Gilmore was just one of many iconic comedies that Sandler starred in back in the 1990s alongside The Waterboy, The Wedding Singer, and Billy Madison.

At this time, Happy Gilmore has neither a director nor an official release date.
