Washington Casino Unveils First-Of-Its-Kind Heinz Machine. Why Is It So Divisive?

In 2010, the world saw the wide release of the Coca-Cola Freestyle machine.

This machine was an innovation in the world of soda dispensers. Instead of several different dispensers offering different brands of soda, this machine had all the different brands coming out of a single spot—adding nearly endless customization options.

While there are problems with machines like these, customers love the added ability to customize their beverage. However, to date, this sort of customizability has largely been limited to drinks.

A new machine at the Muckleshoot Casino Resort in Auburn, Washington, is seeking to change that. But why are viewers arguing about it?

What’s This New Machine?

In a video with over 2.4 million views, a representative for the casino (@muckleshootcasinoresort) stands in front of a bright red machine. Atop is the name “Heinz Remix.”

“Good afternoon, casino guests,” he starts. “We’re going to introduce to you our brand-new Heinz Remix machine that will give you custom sauces.”

According to the speaker, one can use this machine to “build over 2,000 sauces.”

“We’re the first in the state of Washington to have this machine,” he adds.

The speaker then shows how a sauce can be made. First, there are several base sauces: ketchup, mayonnaise, barbecue sauce, mustard, and ranch dressing. Under each of these sauces are a variety of options. For example, one can select “bacon garlic ranchup sauce” or a simple “honey mustard.”

Second, one can choose a “build your own” option. This allows one to pick a base sauce, then add up to two flavorings. To demonstrate, the speaker selects “ketchup,” then adds bacon and jalapeño.

How Does It Work?

“You’re gonna say, ‘Mix My Sauce,’” he says, tapping the screen, “and it’s gonna tell you to place an empty cup right below. And then, you’re gonna click ‘Start Mixing.’”

The video then shows a timelapse of the sauce being dispensed. It appears that the flavors are shot in first. Then, the base sauce is slowly added. The entire time, the tray is agitated to ensure proper mixing.

After a short time, the sauce has been mixed.

“It’s complete,” the speaker declares. “Enjoy your sauce with your favorite fries from the deli.”

All About The Heinz Remix

Many seeing this machine may wonder how common it is—and where they can experience the machine for themselves.

To start, the Heinz Remix concept is already a few years old. The company debuted its first machine in May 2023, and in the years since, the machines have been slowly making their way across the country.

The emphasis here should be placed on the word “slowly.” To date, there aren’t many of these machines in existence. One article from August 2025 said they could only confirm the presence of three machines. Others have spotted the machines in locations for the chains BurgerFi and Duchess.

This slow distribution does not appear to be due to issues with the machine. In fact, the machines appear to be fairly positively reviewed; in 2024, the Heinz Remix machine was listed among the reasons Fast Company declared Heinz one of the “most innovative” companies of the year.

There’s More To The Story

Under this video, some users worried about the cleanliness of such a machine.

As noted on the Heinz Remix website, several efforts are made to ensure cleanliness. First, there are separate tubes used by the machine; it’s not as though all sauces are coming from the same place. Second, the site adds that “Cleaning and maintenance [are] covered by the HEINZ REMIX™ team”—which may partially explain the machine’s slow rollout.

Given all this extra effort, some may wonder why Heinz decided to debut such a technology altogether. The answer, in part, is having access to customer data.

As explained by TechCrunch, Alan Kleinerman, the vice president of Disruption at Kraft Heinz, said that the machine will allow the company to “understand and respond to consumer trends and flavor preferences in real-time.”

“Who knows—maybe our next new sauce combination will come from a superfan using HEINZ REMIX,” Kleinerman stated.

Commenters Are Divided

In the comments section, users were split. Some loved the idea, while others were worried about possible issues with the machine.

“I just KNOW that machine is going to be so messy immediately,” wrote a user.

“A cross contamination nightmare for people with allergies or dietary restrictions,” added another. In response, the TikToker noted that the machine uses separate dispensers and that those with allergies are advised against using the machine.

“We got real problems and they making custom ketchup machines,” stated a third.

“Me just wanting ketchup, while standing behind someone who is inventing a new sauce on my time,” offered a further TikToker.
