Hot chocolate isn’t exactly what you expect to see on a drink menu on a plane. While most people stick to soda, coffee, or tea, sometimes, you’re craving something special. Who says grown-ups can’t indulge?
In a trending video with more than 36,000 views, flight attendant Koloti (@kolotisitanilei) shares the strange request she got from a passenger on a recent flight.
“When a grown man asks for hot chocolate on a 30 min flight,” the text overlay on her TikTok reads.
Koloti mouths along to the words of Whitney Houston’s song “It’s not right but it’s okay.”
“It’s not right, but it’s okay, I’m gonna make it anyway,” she lip-syncs. She literally makes the hot chocolate “anyway” by pouring a Nestlé hot chocolate powder package in a cup she’ll presumably add hot water to.
“We love us some Hot Chocolate over hurrrrrrr,” she added in the caption.
Usually your complimentary drink options on a plane are limited to soda, juice, water, tea, and coffee. Those who want to get a little buzzed can usually get beer, wine, or a mini bottle of liquor, depending on the airline.
But hot chocolate? That isn’t one you hear often.
Do Airlines Usually Have Hot Chocolate In Stock?
According to Business Insider, “most airlines also offer hot chocolate” in addition to several other beverages.
Etihad Airways and Southwest Airlines both offer hot chocolate in economy, and Qantas has hot chocolate made with Cadbury chocolates.
Here are some other things you might not have known you could get on your flight:
- The entire can of soda: Flight attendants usually pour just half a can plus some ice, but you can ask for the whole can, and they’ll likely say yes.
- Temporary babysitting: Parents can sometimes get a helping hand from flight attendants. Etihad’s “Flying Nannies” and Gulf Air’s “Sky Nanny” can assist with kids during boarding or do crafts and games with them.
- Sanitizing wipes: Airplanes are germy, and tray tables are hot spots. If you forgot your wipes, flight attendants usually have extras.
- Basic medications and bandages: Many flights carry over-the-counter meds like painkillers, antacids, and Band-Aids. They’re free if you ask, depending on airline regulations.
- Wing pins for kids: Delta and some other airlines still give kids wing pins, small plastic wings with the airline logo. American Airlines recently brought them back on popular family routes.
Commenters Don’t Agree
In the comments section, viewers used sarcasm to combat Koloti’s sentiment. They don’t see why an adult can’t enjoy hot chocolate. “When I became a man I put away childish things, like delicious beverages,” a person joked.
“Didnt know hot chocolate stop being delicious at a certian age … i mean what else you got to do you at work gettinf paid just make a hot chocolate,” a top comment read.
“Notice how you did it anyway because it’s your job,” another pointed out.
