‘Something Is Def Upppp’: Video Shows Something Unusual In Houston. Why Do People Think It’s Connected To A ‘Bayou Creature’?

A lot of strange things can happen at night. Sometimes, these odd occurrences are captured on camera for the world to see.

Recently, lots of paranormal and spooky stories have been making the rounds on social media. From the woman who heard a mysterious scratching sound in her basement, to the man who saw a human-like figure land on his car, to the other internet user who claimed he saw strange handprints on his car after a long drive, the internet has embraced the haunted nature of the season through people sharing their most frightening tales.

Earlier in the month, another woman noticed a strange series of events that she believes may be connected. In short, is there a mysterious creature wandering around Houston?

What’s This Strange Shape Over Houston?

In a video with over 132,000 views, TikTok user Star (@shinebrightwithstar) recounts that in September, she reposted a video that showed a strange shadow moving through the sky in Houston.

The video, which was originally posted by TikTok user @im.him1950, shows several helicopters flying over Houston. This was part of a training exercise conducted by the Houston Police Department in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Defense.

In part of the video, a shadow can be seen flying across the screen. Some thought it was simply the shadow of a helicopter or a helicopter obscured by the low resolution of the nighttime video. Star appears convinced that something else is happening.

To start, she notes that there have been over 20 bodies pulled out of bayous around Houston in recent months.

“Where does this connect? I’m gonna tell you something—a story that is from a local Houstonian,” she starts. “However, I want you to keep an open mind with this, OK?”

She then adds, “Is it possible we may have something lurking in the Houston bayous targeting people, instead of someone?”

A Swamp Creature In Houston

Star then recounts a comment from another video, in which a user claimed to see a creature in the bayou.

“Some type a animal human creature this thing was huge!! with big black eyes,” the comment reads. The comment has an image from Google Street View. “it jump like 3 feet up to the other side of the street then it jump where I mark the dot at it looked both ways and jump in the water!”

The commenter claims that a body was found nearby soon after.

Star shares other stories about strange, dark creatures in a follow-up video soon after. While she doesn’t explicitly state it, she appears to believe that the sky shadow, the bodies, and the stories of bayou creatures are all connected.

What’s Really Going On Here?

Regarding the original video of the shadow in the sky, it’s unclear what the subject of the video is. That said, some commenters believe it to be a helicopter with its lights off.

As far as the bayou creature theory is concerned, there is zero evidence either of a creature or of such a creature’s connection to the discovered bodies.

Officials in Houston have noted that there is little evidence that the found bodies are connected in any meaningful way. For example, according to CNN, causes of death for the discovered bodies have included accidental drownings, a suicide, drug toxicity, blunt force trauma, and cardiovascular disease.

This means that it’s unlikely to be the actions of a serial killer or a single animal, as either would typically result in a consistent cause of death.

Is There A Bayou Beast In Houston?

There’s also no real evidence of any sort of swamp creature in Houston. There’s also no evidence of a creature that can fly alongside helicopters, as Star appears to be implying.

While there are stories of cryptids in Texas, there are few matching the descriptions provided by the comments listed by Star.

Additionally, the aforementioned comments themselves offer inconsistent descriptions. This would indicate that this is not a singular creature, that these stories are simply made up, or that they’re people misremembering or misunderstanding normal phenomena.

So, if you’re heading out to the bayous near Houston, the only beasts you’ll need to worry about are alligators and mosquitos.
