Verizon Wireless users were left without cell service and data for much of Wednesday, January 14th. While it did not impact every Verizon customer, the Verizon outage impacted virtually the entire East Coast including New York City, Washington D.C., and Boston, as well as Chicago, Florida, Texas, California, and other enormous swaths of the country.
Millions of customers were impacted by the Verizon outage and to apologize, Verizon is offering a $20 credit.
How To Redeem The Verizon Outage $20 Credit
On X, Verizon Wireless released a statement this morning through their Verizon News account. They wrote:
“Yesterday, we did not meet the standard of excellence you expect and that we expect of ourselves. To help provide some relief, we are giving you a $20 account credit that can be easily redeemed by logging into the myVerizon app to accept. On average, this covers multiple days of service. Our business customers will be contacted directly about their credits.
“This credit isn’t meant to make up for what happened. No credit really can. But it’s a way of acknowledging your time and showing that this matters to us.”
“If you’re still having trouble connecting, please restart your device (power down and power back on). This is the fastest way to reconnect your phone to the network.”
We are sorry for what you experienced and will continue to work hard day and night to provide the outstanding network and service that you expect from Verizon.”
It is interesting that Verizon has set up steps for customers to claim the $20 outage credit. The reality is they could easily automatically apply it to everyone that was impacted but instead they appear to be seeking to save money by having customers log into the app to claim it.
According to Verizon’s statement, customers must log into the myVerizon App to claim the credit. I did so and the first thing I saw was a message which reads “The outage has been resolved. If customers are still having an issue, we encourage them to restart their devices to reconnect to the network. We sincerely apologize for the disruption.”
Okay, sure, but where’s the credit? On X, people suggest visiting the ‘my offers’ tab to find it. I didn’t see it there.
Navigating to the ‘Network Status’ page and plugging in my address I see a message saying the ‘outage has been resolved’ with a message stating “for those affected, we will provide account credits” but still no credit to be found.

At this point, we can only assume that Verizon released the statement before activating the ability to claim the $20 credit for the Verizon outage.
One option is to navigate to the ‘Support’ tab at the bottom right of the myVerizon App and check your credits and offers. Once available, it will appear there through the Chat Bot.
Are Verizon customers able to claim the credit yet?
Here is what people are saying on X in response to Verizon’s statement. It seems pretty widespread that (1) customers think $20 is not enough and (2) they haven’t been able to claim the credit yet.

Presumably, Verizon will make the $20 outage credit available for customers to claim through the app, as they stated they would, any hour now. But as yesterday’s outage lasted over half the day there’s no telling what sort of timeline they are working with.
