TikTok user Luckaia (@luckaiastrand) and her new husband headed off on their honeymoon trip to Cancun last week. Except Luckaia’s husband changed the itinerary and kept it a surprise until just a few minutes before takeoff. “POV: Your husband pulls off the best honeymoon surprise of all time.”
The Best Honeymoon Surprise Of All Time?
The video starts with a classic “photo vs. video” moment. Luckaia thinks her husband is taking a photo of her to commemorate the start of their trip, but he is really taking a video to get her reaction to the news he’s about to drop on her.
“So cute. Say cheese,” he says. As she smiles, he tells her, “I gotta tell you something, Kaia. We’re not going to Cancun.”
Luckaia is clearly confused by this information. “What do you mean?” she asks.
Her husband responds, “That’s our plane.” When Luckaia is still confused, he adds, “We’re getting on that plane. We’re going to the Maldives.”
Luckaia is so shocked that she accuses her husband of lying. He concedes that he has been lying to her to a certain extent. “I’ve been lying to you for nine months,” he admits.
“That’s our plane?” Luckaia asks, overwhelmed by emotion. “I’m shaking. This isn’t real life.”
Viewers React To The Honeymoon Flight Surprise
In the comments section, many women said they wouldn’t necessarily appreciate this kind of surprise on the eve of their honeymoon.
“As a Type A person I could never be surprised like this because where’s my boarding ticket?” joked one woman.
“The way my first thought was, ‘Please don’t say any destination where she would need different outfits,’” said a second.
“I would CRASH OUT if I thought I was taking a four-hour flight and it was actually 16,” another person testified.
Someone else said the comments section isn’t passing the vibe check. “Why are people so bitter?” they asked. “He booked her dream honeymoon destination, most likely planned and arranged it all on his own, and kept it a secret to give her the best surprise at the airport.”
Should You Surprise Your Partner With A Trip Change?
Hotels.com called a mystery honeymoon a “distressingly fine line between a fun, surprise honeymoon and an unforgettable failure.”
Surprise trips may be good if:
- The partner being surprised historically likes surprises.
- You know the destination is a place they’d like to travel to.
- You want to take the pressure of planning a trip off of your partner and know they’d appreciate the stress-free vacation.
And finally, you want to make sure they are properly prepared for the surprise trip. Don’t have them pack for a beach vacation if you plan to take them on a mountain trip. Ideally, you might tell them how to pack without divulging where you’re headed off to.
At the end of the day, it’s to each their own. And Luckaia seemed rather enthused by the surprise.
