Man Overhears The Car In Front Of Him Place A Secret Order At In-N-Out. It’s ‘Actually Alarming’

A man waited for the car in front of him to order at In-N-Out. He was disgusted by what he heard him ask for on the intercom, sparking discussion about the should’ve-stayed-a-secret secret order.

In a video with over 720,000 views, TikToker Ryan (@ryanbrosch) shares the controversial order that caught his attention. On-screen text reads, “The car in front of me ordered a grilled cheese, protein style. What the actual.”

What Is A ‘Protein Style’ Grilled Cheese?

On the In-N-Out menu, “protein style” refers to a burger wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun. While there’s not any extra protein, the ratio of calories from protein increases without bread.

However, some customers have figured out that they can also request a grilled cheese with lettuce instead of bread, too.

The secret order basically consists of hot cheese on two pieces of lettuce with tomatoes and spread, making it more like a cheesy salad than a sandwich.

In-N-Out workers discussed the controversial order on Reddit, calling it one of the most bizarre orders they’ve received.

One wrote, “When you’re cooking it’s a little bit of a pain in the butt getting it off the grill without using the spatula… but I can’t feel the tips of my fingers anymore anyway ;).”

“Hold up. How would the cheese be melted? On the grill like used to be done for fries? Lettuce would not be very good run through the steamer,” a commenter questioned.

What Do Viewers Think Of The Viral In-N-Out Order?

In the comments, other In-N-Out workers shared the orders that made them raise their eyebrows.

“Had someone order a veggie plain, ketchup mustard only… so literally: buns with ketchup and mustard,” a commenter said.

“Yea this shit pmo when people order like bruh you’re ordering a slab of cheese WRAPPED in lettuce lol,” a second remarked.

However, some viewers defended the unusual grilled cheese order.

“My mom does this lol, she can’t have wheat and meat makes her feel sick lol,” one said.

Another wrote, “It’s so good lol when I didn’t eat meat I would order that all the time. I don’t really like the added heaviness of the bread so I would just order it ‘protein style’ lmao.”

“Protein style grilled cheese whole grilled onions *chefs kiss*” a third added.

“It’s actually not bad it’s the same thing as the burger just minus the bun and meat. I like to add pickles and extra tomato,” a fourth viewer suggested.

In an email to BroBible, Ryan reacted to the protein-style grilled cheese debate in the comments section.

“I don’t think a protein style grilled cheese is in my future ever when their burgers are the moment (a Double-Double to be specific)!” he wrote. “I do understand though that being some people’s orders due to dietary restrictions and preferences.”

BroBible reached out to Ryan via email and TikTok direct message and to In-N-Out via press contact form for further comment. We will update the story when they reply.
