An airline recently banned Yeferson Cossio, an influencer with over 12.5 million Instagram followers and more than 4 million YouTube followers. He now faces legal action for making fart sounds and smells on a plane. Of course, he was filming the stunt for his social media accounts.
The 31-year-old from Colombia reportedly so far hasn’t actually posted any of the farting prank on the plane content yet, though. It may have something to do with the airline, Avianca, deciding to take action against him.
Cossio reportedly was traveling on a flight from Bogota, Colombia, to Madrid, Spain, earlier this month when he used a fart machine that created realistic farting noises and odors.
The airline issued a statement about the farting prank
Following the flight, after at least one traveler reportedly took offense at the sounds and odor, Avianca banned him from taking the return flight home. The airline also issued a statement about the prank and referenced section 8.6 of their terms and conditions related to “conduct that affects safety, comfort, order and discipline on the aircraft.”
“Avianca categorically rejects any behavior that jeopardizes the safety of its operations and compromises the onboard experience for customers and service personnel,” the company stressed in a March 29 statement, JamPress reported, according to the New York Post.
Because the aircraft was flying over the Atlantic Ocean, where an emergency landing was not possible, Avianca said Cossio’s actions posed a direct risk to other passengers due to the closed, pressurized environment and the air recirculation system.
Need To Know reports that witnesses saw Cossio activating the fart machine during the flight.
“Avianca categorically rejects any behavior that jeopardizes the safety of its operations and compromises the onboard experience for customers and service personnel,” the airline added in its statement.
Cossio has reportedly not issued a statement about the potential for legal action by Avianca.
This isn’t the first time Yeferson Cossio has made controversial news
In 2024, Yeferson Cossio underwent the “most painful surgery in the entire world,” according to him. He had his legs surgically lengthened to make himself taller.
The surgery reportedly cost him $175,000, and according to the New York Post, “involves breaking a patient’s bones, inserting a metal rod and using an external device to slowly lengthen the gap multiple times a day.”
Following the surgery, he went from being 5-foot-8 to 6-feet tall. It wasn’t without consequences, though, as he said he was “constantly interrupted by periods of 15 to 20 minutes because of the pain in my legs.” For more than a year, he also needed a wheelchair and crutches to get around.
