After building a multi-billion dollar empire in the Pacific Northwest metropolis of Seattle, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is moving down to Miami, Florida.
According to Bezos, who shared the news on Instagram, the decision to move from the country’s most northwest corner to its furthest southeast region was an ’emotional’ one.
As for why Bezos is relocating from the 206 to the 305, the 59-year-old says he wants to be close to his parents and also because he and his new fiancee Lauren Sanchez “love Miami.”
Bezos’ announcement of his move across the country came with a video of him in the early 90s — still equipped with, albeit obviously fleeting, hair — looking around Amazon’s first “office” in his garage.
“Seattle has been my home since 1994 when I started Amazon out of my garage. That’s my dad behind the camera in this video, touring Amazon’s first “office.” My parents have always been my biggest supporters. They recently moved back to Miami, the place we lived when I was younger (Miami Palmetto High class of ’82 — GO Panthers!) I want to be close to my parents, and Lauren and I love Miami. Also, Blue Origin’s operations are increasingly shifting to Cape Canaveral,” Bezos said.
“For all that, I’m planning to return to Miami, leaving the Pacific Northwest. I’ve lived in Seattle longer than I’ve lived anywhere else and have so many amazing memories here. As exciting as the move is, it’s an emotional decision for me. Seattle, you will always have a piece of my heart.”
Bezos moving to Miami is also noteworthy given the memes about him and Pitbull looking increasingly similar that have popped up in recent years since he got divorced.

Given that Bezos currently has a net worth in the neighborhood of $140 billion, though, we have a feeling that he can afford to keep a residence in both cities.
