A scripted series about Jeffrey Epstein is being shopped around Hollywood with Laura Dern attached to star as investigative journalist Julie K. Brown

Director Adam McKay, known for his films such as Anchorman, The Big Short and Don’t Look Up, is also attache to executive produce. The series will follow Brown’s years-long investigation that identified 80 victims, persuaded key survivors to go on the record, and led to Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell’s arrests.

The official description of the series, which is currently being shopped around Hollywood an seems likely to land a deal, frames it as “an explosive account of an investigative reporter exposing the secret plea deal between Epstein and federal prosecutors.”

If put into production, it would be the first scripted series about the Epstein case. At this time, it is unclear if President Donald Trump — with growing revelations about his ties to Epstein coming seemingly every other month — would be a character in the series.

Sharon Hoffman (Mrs. America, House of Cards) is adapting the book and will serve as co-showrunner alongside Eileen Myers (Masters of Sex), while McKay and Kevin Messick will executive produce via Hyperobject Industries.

Dern, 59 years old, is a nine-time Emmy nominee who won for Big Little Lies, and a three-time Oscar nominee who won best supporting actress for Marriage Story in 2020. She’s coming off a pair of roles last year in Jay Kelly and Is This Thing On?, and will next be seen starring in the film Peaked.
