Winter Storm Hernando is absolutely pummeling the northeast with snow. There are over 40 million Americans currently under a blizzard warning with over 2-feet of snow already dumped across many areas. Of course, Weather Channel meteorologist Jim Cantore is front and center for the action.

While reporting on Winter Storm Hernando from a familiar location, in Plymouth, Massachusetts, Jim Cantore encountered THUNDERSNOW in the same spot he first did 11 years ago during Winter Storm Neptune which blanketed the Northeast in snow so thick it didn’t melt until Summer in some parts.

Jim Cantore Sees THUNDERSNOW Again!

As of lunchtime on Monday, parts of Long Island had received 28 inches of snow. Much of New York City is completely shut down (roads, tunnels, airports).

But Jim Cantore knows ball. He sensed that while New York City is where most of the attention will be it was Plymouth, Massachusetts calling his name after first experiencing thundersnow there back 2015 during Winter Storm Neptune.

The Weather Channel put together this side-by-side video of Jim Cantore first experiencing thundersnow back in 2015 and then again today during Winter Storm Hernando:

2015 was just the third year that winter storms started receiving names but I remember Neptune like it was yesterday because I was trying to fly back to the United States from Portugal and the weather reports were diabolical. Then I got a stomach bug / food poisoning at the airport and the name ‘Winter Storm Neptune’ was seared into my brain forever.

If you came here looking for the isolated clip of today’s thundersnow and not the side-by-side, you’re in luck. That also exists. I just thought the side-by-side of the incredibly rare weather phenomenon happening in the same location to the same meteorologist, Jim Cantore, 11 years apart, was pretty awesome.

Have any of you heard thundersnow outside yet today or last night as historic snowfall hit the Northeast? Let us know in the Facebook comments. Or you can email me anytime at cass@brobible.com if you have tips/feedback.
