Controversial Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, who has spent much of recent years tweeting about transgender and LGBTQ issues, has not tweeted since August 7 (two weeks ago today at the time of this writing) and has also deleted a trove of tweets.

The probable reason that J.K. Rowling has likely temporarily halted her hateful online rhetoric is because she was named in a lawsuit filed by Olympic Gold-medal-winning Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, who is suing the likes of Rowling and Elon Musk for cyberbullying due to repeated false claims that she was a man competing in a women’s competition.

The potentially expensive lawsuit from Khelif isn’t the only way that Rowling’s Twitter has embarrassed her in recent weeks, as fans also noticed that the author’s profile picture appeared to show black mold growing up the walls of her house.

“The lawsuit was filed against X, which under French law means that it was filed against unknown persons. That ‘ensure[s] that the prosecution has all the latitude to be able to investigate against all people,’ including those who may have written hateful messages under pseudonyms,” Nabil Boudi, Khelif’s Paris-based lawyer, said in a statement earlier this month.

“J.K. Rowling and Elon Musk are named in the lawsuit, among others. Trump tweeted, so whether or not he is named in our lawsuit, he will inevitably be looked into as part of the prosecution,” he added.

The 25-year-old Algerian boxer — who won the Olympic gold medal in the women’s 66kg boxing — became a focal point of right-wing rage baiting on social media during the 2024 Olympics, as she was widely and falsely accused of being a man.

Khelif, however, suffers from a rare condition called Differences of Sexual Development (DSD) that can result in the woman having “XY sex chromosomes, blood testosterone levels in the male range, and the ability to use testosterone circulating within their bodies.”
