Very few musicians can make their mark by releasing an original Christmas song after all of the great artists have already released all of the classics. You have All I Want for Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey, Last Christmas by Wham! and 27 John Groban holiday songs. Now, John Mayer attempts to make a holiday classic with his new CVS Bag song.
On Monday, Mayer introduced his new Christmas song CVS Bag, and it is sure to be a hit.
Mayer shared the song on his Instagram with the caption: “I wrote a song about the trustiest of companions while staying at someone else’s house for the holidays. Please enjoy ‘CVS Bag,’ as performed last night on @currentmood. Happy Holidays!”
The 42-year-old Grammy-winning musician said, “I wrote this song myself, and it’s about something we all encounter in the holidays.” The song perfectly encapsulates going to your parents’ house with a CVS bag full of snacks and a phone charger.
“So when you go home for the holidays, and you stay in your family’s house, you’re a guest,” Mayer said. “There’s not much you can do.”
Here are some lyrics for the new Christmas classic: “I fell asleep too early / I woke up at midnight / I was hungry / It was alright, you were there / CVS bag on the table.”
An instant holiday classic.
